Winter is coming! It's a season for celebration and reflection as we review our accomplishments and look forward to achieving new goals in the next year.

2024 was a very busy year at Worthington Libraries, as we began to fulfill the promises of our 2024-2029 Strategic Plan and its focus on storytelling, sustainability, social justice and human connection.

The highlights! We saw thousands of people attend library programs, including blockbuster events celebrating "Star Wars," summer reading and the fall season. We launched our Pop-Up Library, an outreach vehicle sponsored by the Friends Foundation of Worthington Libraries, that has allowed us to introduce the Library to new audiences and bring library service to people who might not otherwise have access. We were once again recognized for excellence in financial reporting for our 2023 annual comprehensive financial report. We began the process of placing solar panels on Northwest Library. We started work on a master facilities plan to determine how our buildings can meet the future needs of Worthington residents. Together with other central Ohio libraries, we hosted a sold-out author event with Ta-Nehisi Coates. And, finally, we partnered with Worthington Parks and Recreation to create a story trail along the Moses Wright Nature Path at East Granville Road Community Park near Old Worthington Library.

As we look forward to 2025, I am excited about the completion of our master facilities plan. I look forward to sharing the results with the community and to discussions about potential changes we could make to our three facilities that would improve and enhance the experience of visiting the Library. More details on this will be available in early spring.

We're also planning some great new programs as we continue to host those that are tried and true, such as February by the Fire, the community breakfast and the summer movie series at Northwest Library. We are looking forward to meeting new people at community events and to welcoming people who view the Library as their second home.

As I prepare to ring in another New Year as director of Worthington Libraries, I ask you to join me in celebrating the library staff. They make all of this possible and continue to amaze me with their creativity, passion and dedication to providing our patrons with great service and experiences that can both make their day and change their life. They are the reason for all the seasons!

Now, grab a good book and hot cup of cocoa and have a warm and cozy winter!
