Purpose

Under general direction, the Circulation Manager ensures the provision of excellent customer service, efficient circulation and re-shelving of library materials and effective communication with other departments.

Essential Position Functions

  1. Supervisory duties
  2. Serves as the second level of management in resolving patron disputes
  3. Assists with problem solving and manages workflow
  4. Coordinates with circulation managers at all library locations to implement services
  5. Oversees and monitors handling of money 
  6. Leads the opening and/or closing operations for a location, including managing money, ensuring the startup or shutdown of equipment and unlocking and/or locking of doors
  7. Performs duties of Circulation Team Leader, as needed
  8. Serves as librarian-in-charge, as assigned

Required experience

Education, Training and/or Experience
  1. Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or GED and an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; and 
  2. A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience; and
  3. A minimum of one (1) year of experience managing workflow, defined as a series of tasks, usually involving multiple participants, from initiation to completion to produce a desired outcome
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
  1. Proficient in the use of the Integrated Library System (ILS)
  2. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records
  3. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations and policies
  4. Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
  5. Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order
  6. Ability to address and resolve patron conflict equitably
  7. Knowledge of state and federal employment laws
  8. Ability to simplify complex processes to increase efficiency
  9. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  10. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  11. Ability to retain and follow circulation policies and procedures
Physical Demands
  1. Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily
  2. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, occasionally
  3. Ability to push book trucks with up to 150 pounds of materials on them, occasionally
  4. Ability to stand for extended periods, occasionally
  5. Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, climbing and squatting, occasionally
  6. Travel by automobile is required occasionally

Schedule

  • Sunday (every 3rd): 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • Monday: 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Thursday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
  • Either a Friday or Saturday each week (based on a rotating schedule): 8:30 am - 6:00 pm
